Bossoms Boatyard

PEOPLE AT BOSSOMS

Although the Bossom family sold the boatyard that bears their name over 60 years ago, the boatyard continues the best traditions of a family business to this day.

Below are the people that make up today's Bossoms Boatyard family

THE TEAM

Roger Hardy

Senior Manager

Having been here for so many years it is hard to say exactly why it is that I enjoy working here at Bossoms. I am fortunate to have a great team working for me in the workshops, stores and marina. From Linda in the office, whos takes calls and looks after the admin, through to our fine team of boat builders and trainees, under Simon's tutelage. Our engineer Giles and our 'man for all jobs' Mick, the staff we have now gathered are, I feel, second to none. Our ability to work closely with our customers means that each build is a new challenge that Bossoms is more than capable of rising to, it is these challenges that make my work here a pleasure. We are situated on the banks of the Thames on Port Meadow and with these surroundings it is hard to imagine a more picturesque place to come to work.

Lyn Ahmet
Office Administrator

I run the office and deal with our customers. I like the friendly atmosphere of a small but busy company that has a family feel to it. Although we are a modern company, Bossoms still retains an ‘Old World' feeling that I like.

Simon Burton

Boat Building Manager

Bossoms has a brilliant work atmosphere where everyone is working towards the same goal. We produce a top quality product using classic boatbuilding skills, mixed with new and modern ideas, using the latest technology. I enjoy my role at Bossoms because I have been given the chance to express myself as a boatbuilder and to implement new ideas into both our older and very latest craft. I am also able to pass on my skills and work ethic to those I work with.

Matthew Tolley

Trainee Boat Builder

I joined the company two years ago when I left school. I enjoy working at Bossoms, working with Simon I am learning many skills and techniques. Bossoms are supporting me by sending me part time to Southampton City College to study and get my qualifications as a Boatbuilder

Mark Willoughby
Machinist/Boat Builder

I came to Bossoms straight from school, the work here is interesting and I have been given the opportunity to gain further qualifications by going to college to become a machinist. Under Simon's supervision I have been working hard to improve my boatbuilding skills and after several years I have the satisfaction of seeing the boats that I have built leaving to be delivered to our customers.

Giles Shearing
Mechanical/Electrical Engineer

I enjoy working with the Bossoms boatbuilding team as they are committed to working to a very high standard, plus it's a great working atmosphere. My role at Bossoms gives me a lot of input into the development of the electro/mechanical components of each craft tailoring the installation to the customer's needs. I enjoy having an active involvement in the design and build of the craft produced here and with our latest designs on the electrical propulsion front; I believe we are producing probably the quietest and most efficient electric boats on the market today. All this is so wonderfully complemented by the views across the river, the abundant wildlife and of course the boats, all this located on what I think is the most beautiful part of the River Thames.

Michael Bye
Support & Deliveries

I do the deliveries and look after the marina and yard. I love boats and I enjoy working here because a lot of my time is spent out and about doing a variety of different jobs in the fresh air. I also enjoy working with the great team we have here at Bossoms.

Leigh Burton

Trainee Machinist/Boatbuilder

I had the opportunity in May 2008 to join the team at Bossom's Boat Yard. The boat yard is located on the banks of the River Thames which creates an ideal atmosphere and surroundings for boat building and the restoration of boats. I enjoy the variety of work that the boat yard offers me, each day is never the same. Like other members of the team I hope that my career with Bossoms will be a long one and as my experience grows I can offer the boat yard more boat building skilled work.

Cathy Pierce

Director

The great thing about this company is the sense that everyone is doing their best for the customers and each other - there is a sharing of responsibility for doing a good job.
