Admiralty oars are a very heavy duty oar with a distinctive large blade area for the length of the oar with a loom diameter of up to 2.75” at the sleeve. They are used extensively by Sea Cadets and Sea Scouts and also used in ship’s lifeboats. To calculate the length of the oar you require find the outboard length of the oar by measuring the beam of the boat from rowlock to rowlock, add 8.5” and divide by 2, then multiply this by 2.45, add to this the beam divided by 2, thus giving the overall length & button position.
